The Pondicherry Tourist Department and Tamil Nadu Tourism Department have daily 1 to 2-day trips from Pondicherry to Chennai. The fare includes all meals, sightseeing, and stay at a three star hotel. One can book these buses on the tourism website portals. The fare of the bus may cost around Rs. 1500 to Rs. 3000 per person.

The road connecting Pondicherry to Chennai is smooth and well paved. Tourists can book a cab if travelling with family or in groups from Pondicherry to Chennai and are available at a fare of Rs 2000 to Rs 3500 for a round trip. If one is travelling with kids and elders hiring a cab from Pondicherry to Chennai is the best option.

It is not a rare sight to see bike enthusiasts racing on this route.

A railway track connects Pondicherry to Chennai. The Chennai Puducherry Passenger (56037) starts from Puducherry railway station and terminates at Egmore station at Chennai.
