It's really hard to say that one particular task is the biggest factor in a web ranking

. There is on page and off page optimization. Nobody really knows what methods search engines use to index your website. But we can do research to see what works best for other sites. So if I was going to narrow the most important step down, I'd have to say it would be the amount of back links that you have going to your website.

Backlinks are the sledgehammer of getting a high web ranking. You can rank well for just about anything if you have enough links pointing back to the website you want to promote.

Like I said before we don't really know what methods the search engine uses but I have found that over time they are making it harder and harder for people to get easy backlinks. In my opinion many of the methods used in the past like reciprocal linking, buying back links are strategies that are going by the wayside with the search engines. I don't think their linking strategies meet their terms and condition of what they are looking for so that is why this process is getting harder and harder.

I believe search engines are after the quality relevance over a long period of time. So you still have to concentrate on back link building whatever way you do it. The most important factor in your linking plan is that you stay consistent.

But just how does one go about getting back links to their website. I have found that article submissions are by far the best method to use.

When getting back links to your website you want to make sure you replicate what happens naturally. So just sticking to one method of linking is not going to be good because more than one way will be used to link to a website.

Let's say for example you wanted to rank high for a certain particular keyword, the most important factor is that you pick a domain name that has your keyword in it. The reason why that is so important is because some links back to your web site will just contain the domain URL and the search engines can figure out what your site is about if you put the right keywords in your domain name. The next important step is to put the main keyword in your title and description of your meta tags. These two steps alone are the main factors one person needs to do to obtain high web rankings. Another important factor you'll want to consider when getting back links for your web rankings is to not get a whole bunch at one time. Be regular and steady.
