The KinderPals: Lessons at the Park

The sun shone brightly on a beautiful spring day. The flowers were starting to bloom, the bees were beginning to buzz, and the KinderPals were beginning their morning with a nice stroll through the park!

Matthew the tiger, Mia the bear, Jamie the bunny, Hector the hippo, and Dante the sloth all walked quietly behind their own teacher Mrs. C as she led them all through the park and answered any questions they had.

"Mrs. C!" cried Matthew, why do bees always buzz above flowers?! Hector stated softly "Matthew you've got to remember to say excuse me". "That's right Matthew," exclaimed Mrs. C, whenever you would like to ask a person anything you've got to say excuse me. "I'm sorry", said Matthew and then he said, "Excuse me Mrs. C why do bees always buzz around flowers?"

Mrs. C said with a smile "well Matthew, bees need to have the special powder inside of the flowers, called pollen, so they can make honey to build their homes. "Their homes are called hives right Mrs. C?" said Mia. "Yes very good Mia" said Mrs. C.

The KinderPals kept strolling and all of a sudden Jamie screamed "Ohhh I see a hive in that tree! I'm going to go say hi to the bees!" Jamie started jumping over to the hive when Mrs. C shouted "Jamie! Come back here this second!" Jamie stopped quick and slowly bounced back to Mrs. C, with her ears hung low. She was unhappy that Mrs. C shouted at her.

Once Jamie came back again to the group Mrs. C said softly "Jamie bees may be dangerous sometimes once you get too close to their hive or when you get too near to them". And then Mia said "yes they can sting you as soon as they get mad and that hurts so much!" Dante the sloth asked curiously "What does sting mean?" Mia explained: "bees have a very sharp part of their body called a stinger and if you make them angry they poke you with it!"

Mrs. C said "Certainly Mia very good and that's why we can look at bees work but we should never get too near to them or their hive okay Jamie?" Jamie's ears perked up. She knew that Mrs. C had been just trying to make sure she didn't get hurt.

The KinderPals watched the bees for a couple of extra seconds and now they kept walking all through the park. After a while, Matthew saw an ice cream stand and shouted: "Ice Cream!! Yay! I want some!" Mrs. C said "no Matthew though we're in the park you are still in school we came here to learn not eat ice cream" Matthew got really angry and yelled "BUT I WANT ICE CREAM!! GRRR!!!". He began to roar and stomp his paws.

Mia said to him softly "Matthew you aren't being considerate of Mrs. C, if she buys you Ice Cream she will have to buy us all ice cream" Matthew understood he was not being fair and began to calm down. Afterwards Hector stated "You also did not remember to ask politely Matthew you've got to say please" Matthew said "I'm sorry" to the rest of the KinderPals and also to Mrs. C. "It's alright Matthew" Mrs. C exclaimed "and because you were all so wonderful in helping your pals and also learned so much I think that you've all earned some ice cream!"

The KinderPals all shouted "Hooray!" and they strolled back again to school happily eating their ice cream on the way.
