Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world due to its beauty and due to the fact that it is very diversified; it is this diversity that most attracts tourists as they like to visit a country to fit their tastes. When you visit Spain, it is impossible not to find something of your taste, something you enjoy, as there is an extremely wide range of entertainment possibilities, of places to visit and things to see. Among the attractions of Spain, Barcelona occupies a top place; even though it is not the capital of the country, Barcelona sometimes attracts more visitors than Madrid as it is the city that hosts the spectacular works of Antoni Gaudi that everyone wants to see.

Attractions in Barcelona

Antoni Gaudi is the modernist architect who created the breathtaking La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the Casa Mila and the fantastic Park Guell. However, these are not the only works of Antoni Gaudi and definitely not the only attractions of Barcelona. One of its biggest attractions is the beautiful La Seu Cathedral, also known as the Santa Eulalia Cathedral. The Cathedral was built in the 14th century and tourists can find it in the Gothic Quarter, known to every tourist as Ciutat Vella (or the Old City). Between the 60s and the 70s, the Cathedral suffered a small transformation as it had to be cleaned and then restored.

The Cathedral has a very beautiful location, being surrounded by the picturesque Carrer del Bisbe, a stunning street which was built in the year 10 BC (it is probably one of the oldest streets in Barcelona). While you are there, make sure you visit the cloister because it deserves your entire attention; the cloister will impress you with its lush flowers, the beautiful orange trees, the palm trees, the fountains and the ponds and last but not the least, the 13 geese which represent the years that Santa Eulalia had when she died. Santa Eulalia is very important for Barcelona as she is the co patron saint of the city and her remains are buried in a crypt inside the Cathedral. The legend says that at 13 years old, she suffered martyrdom as she was killed by the Romans after being tortured, burned and then crucified in the Central Square. Visit the La Seu Cathedral; I am sure that you will be impressed by both the architecture and by its history.
