The LG GS200: Faring Against the Music Mobile Big Boys
How Time Flies A few years back, mobiles that made use of monophonic ring tones were already deemed awesome as could be
. We all remember those days. Back then, ring tones that vaguely resembled the latest Spice Girls or Boyzone hit were already a big deal. We were even more amazed when the era of polyphonic ring tones ushered in. And then came the Sony Ericsson Walkman mobile phone. It was hard to imagine that our mobile phones were already our radio and eventually, it also became our portable MP3 player sort of an all in one music/telephone device. How times have changed. Nowadays, a mobile phone that didnt have some sort of music or multimedia features would be hard to take seriously. Today, even entry level devices are equipped with music features that would have been unimaginable a couple of years back. Hoping to battle it out with the big guns in the market is the LG GS200. Heres how it fares against the veterans. Walkman Legacy There is no doubt that it was Sony Ericsson that started the ball rolling when it launched the first ever Walkman mobile phone. Through the years, the company has consistently come out with a multitude of follow-ups that truly lived up to the esteemed product line. However, in terms of pricing, the closest we could compare the GS200 to would probably be the Sony Ericsson W205. Feature-wise, both have pretty much all the basic features you would expect from an 80-pound mobile. This means that 3G, Wi-Fi, and other high end features are obviously excluded. In terms of its multimedia functionality though, its a whole different ballgame. For starters, one of the biggest advantages of the LG GS200 is that it has a 3.5 mm ear jack something that Walkman mobiles lack. This means that you can use any standard set of earphones for this device. The GS200 will also have to take it in the memory department as its microSD slot can accommodate up to 8GB compared to the W205s 2GB maximum. While the GS200s screen may have a higher resolution than the W205, the latter will still have to be given the points when it comes to the built-in music player application. The Walkman media player is definitely one of, if not the best in the biz. XpressMusic Dominance While it may not have been the pioneer, Nokia has definitely done a good job with the XpressMusic line of mobiles. Based on similar standards used in the previous comparison, it is the Nokia 5130 XpressMusic that were going to be using. This device is also an eighty-something-pound mobile that has a similar feature set as the LG GS200. Both mobiles have the 3.5 mm ear jack and the built-in FM radio (the 5130 doesnt have FM recording though). However, thats pretty much where the similarities end. Music quality is better on the 5130 and it also has the trademark dedicated music keys in place. Its memory is also double that of the GS200 at 16GB and battery life is also much longer (21 hours of music play compared to the GS200s 14 hours). If for anything, the 5130s screen also has a higher resolution and its built-in camera is also more advanced.
