The LSU Alumni Association, Its History and Goals

The history of alumni associations is very long

. They were crated on the basis of certain educational establishment in order to maintain connection among students and graduates of college or university and support their educational establishment in any possible way.

As a matter of fact, the core ideas of every alumni association remain the same untill nowadays.

One of the oldest alumni associations of the U.S. is the Louisiana State University Alumni Association.

Some glimpses into the history of this association.

The association appeared at the end of the 19th century. The objective was to create a union where graduates could stay in touch.

The society was founded in 1905 with Lewis S. Graham as a leader.

The society was aimed to maintain contacts among alumni. The main way to do it was an alumni monthly periodical The Alumnus.

The group also provided scholarships and awarded medals to the best students of the university.

Today the alumni of the Louisiana State University enlarged its activities greatly.

The association provides many valuable researchers for students and alumni. Among them are the LSU Alumni Magazine, the website and alumni records.

Apart from this activity, alumni support the university in many different ways. It provides scholarships for students, faculty enhancements, alumni association professorship and retired faculty events.

The association supports students as well. Each year the association supports with scholarships outstanding students, it organizes special projects like Fall Fest, Homecoming Parade. The association also provides students with work programs.

The association serves its alumni by providing various benefits for its members.

Among those benefits are supporting of classmate and campus connections through website and publications, Social events like Class Reunions, Homecoming, Alumni Day, Chapters and others. It sponsors sport trips and travel programs abroad.
