The Large Hole In Entertainment Centers

It is funny that furniture has to change to keep up with technology

. Who would have thought that those coveted boom boxes would soon find their way to the garage sell bin. I remember buying those monstrosities for our children for Christmas and watching their eyes light up at the sheer size and volume of them. Things have changed, now they carry around all their music on a ipod so small it fits in their back pockets. They have docking mounts in their room that are neither cool or large. Just functional, and no one cares. I can fit Christmas shopping into a single bag these days it seems like with everything is getting smaller and smaller. I spend more than ever but the gismos and gadgets are all very little, ipods, DS's video games, systems, and controllers, video and still cameras. I can do all my shopping at a single store and bring it all home in a single bag. What happen to the toys, the stuffed animals, the train sets, Barbies, legos, electric race cars set, injection molds, GI Joes and lincoln logs? Do they even make all those wonderful inventive, creative toys for children anymore?

My children are all teenagers or adults now, so I never go into toy stores, I miss all that stuff, I miss shopping for lego sets for Christmas, the excitement in the eyes of the children Christmas morning as they raced their cars round the track. I guess I am getting nostalgic in my old age.

Back to the discussion of the giant hole in the entertainment center. What is happening to them? A couple of options I guess; either the flat screens are placed on mounts and are pulled to the front of the hole, a giant silk plant or pottery is placed there instead and the television is mounted to the wall over the fireplace, or like us, we gave the old entertainment center to the kids for their gaming consoles with the big television and we now have our flat screen on a television stand. Mounts and stands and are all you need for televisions today, either to set it on or to hang the television on. You can mount a television in the bathroom over the tub, our friends have one mounted outside by their hot tub, they hang on kitchen walls, living room and family room walls. Anywhere, well anywhere but that big hole in the entertainment center that we were all so proud of just a few years ago.
