On April 14, 2010 at RFID Journal Live! , Motorola announced their new MC9090-G RFID

ER handheld reader with extended range (ER) bar code scanning capability. This new handheld computer leverages the award-winning features of their existing family of Motorola MC9090 mobile computers capability to further increase productivity across the supply chain. While Motorola uses the term "ER" to describe the capabilities of this scanner, it is actually capable of scanning both near and far 1D barcodes as Motorola claims that this mobile computer with integrated barcode scanner can capture 1D barcodes from as close as four inches to as far as 40 feet away. This range of this barcode scanner eliminates the need and associated costs of using multiple devices for disparate and specific work tasks.

The Motorola MC9090-G RFID ER reader can easily be used in global deployments as it has support for U.S. and Asia-Pacific frequencies, as well as the European standard ETSI EN 302 208. From an RFID perspective, the MC9090-G mobile computer supports EPC Gen 2 and Dense Reader Mode (DRM) RFID technologies.

As with the whole MC9090 family of handheld computers, this mobile computer is built with superior construction designed to withstand rigorous use in extreme environments and a wide variety of working conditions, including the manufacturing floor, the warehouse, the loading dock or out in the yard. Also, like other Motorola MC9090 mobile computers, this devices includes integrated Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g wireless capabilities, Bluetooth, keyboard options, rugged color touch screen display and the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. Also, with Motorola"s superior power management capabilities, the MC9090-G RFID ER offers ample battery life for a full work shift.

Most importantly, this Motorola MC9090-G RFID ER mobile computer, like all Motorola MC9090 mobile computers, is incredibly rugged with an IP64 sealing rating, and passes the industry's most stringent drop and tumble tests. This MC9090 mobile computer is available with a 3-year comprehensive no-fault warranty to minimize overall total cost of ownership.
