Ottawa, Ontario, is the capital of Canada and although usually not considered much
of a tourist destination is actually a beautiful and cosmopolitan city with a burgeoning arts scene and great historic landmarks. Although not one of the country's most well known cities the choice as the location of the capital makes sense as the bridge between the split nationalities of Toronto (English) and Ottawa (French) and serves as a literal and metaphorical bridge between the two. Over one million people live in Ottawa and there are outstanding national museums, numerous parks and gardens and an excellent dining and entertainment scene.
Luxury hotels in Ottawa are primarily located in the downtown area which serves as the commercial and economic center of the city. The area and the residential neighborhood to the south are also known locally as 'Centretown'. The National Capital Region includes both Ottawa, in Ontario and the French-speaking city of Gastineau in Quebec and straddles the border between the two provinces. Just outside of the Downtown Ottawa area is the neighborhood of Kanata, the hub of the high-tech industry in Ontario. Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) is serviced by 16 airlines on a daily basis. Direct flights arrive from all major Canadian and many American cities. Connections can also be made via Ottawa and Toronto. Air Canada offers a direct flight from Ottawa to La Guardia Airport in New York City.
