The players take alternate turns in moving their pieces and it should be noted that only one piece can be moved at a time with an exception on castling where movements of two pieces are allowed. It is a practice that the players with light colored pieces make the opening move and the corresponding piece can land on an empty square or on an enemy occupied provided that the piece can capture the opponents. The World Chess Federation has the task of maintaining the games rules and regulations.
