The Lg Pop-a Closer Look

LG have developed a reputation of the past few years for producing good value mobile handsets that are fun, easy to use and innovative

. The introduction of the GD510 Pop into their range sees this tradition continue with a superb quality, compact handset.

Lets start on the size. The LG Pop measures 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2mm, undoubtedly compact but on the flip side of the coin it is hardly a powerful smartphone either. The Pop falls somewhere between the smartphone and fashion phone camps, boasting enough features to keep most consumers happy but still maintaining a neat and compact exterior. Weighing 87g the phone is also light, as you would expect, and the handset is an ideal size to easily slip into a pocket. A 3" touchscreen is incorporated into the unit. A screen of this size obviously does not require the massive resolution of some of the larger screens, the Pop however does still feature a reasonable 240 x 400 pixels, and a capability of producing 256K colours. The resistive touchscreen does require a little pressure from the user but is generally responsive. The screen also features auto rotate function thanks to an accelerometer chip. Buttons have been kept to a minimum on the handset thanks to LG cleverly giving what button there are dual functions, thus the power button doubles as a lock switch and the camera button can pull up a list of your favourite apps onscreen when it is tapped quickly.

Thanks to the A Class user interface, the day to day operation of the phone is easy and menus not only look great but are fun and logical. The menu system is based around three basic homescreens, accesible by swiping your finger left or right. Four buttons always remain the same at the bottom of these screens which are, numberpad, messaging, contacts and applications. The first of the home screens allows the user to customise it thanks to it being mainly widget based. These widgets can be easily added and removed as required. LG's LiveSquare feature is what the second screen is based on, allowing an easy overview of all recently used contacts, messages etc and the thrird screen is a speed dial list.

The phone is packed with other features to keep the user happy. A 3.15 mega pixel camera complete with video capture facility at 15 frames per second and full social networking intergration to the likes of Facebook and Twitter are going to perhaps be the most appealing.

The LG Pop lives up to its fun and quirky name and will appeal to the teens and twentysomethings out there thanks to its compact size, neat features and its internet connectivity, allowing for access to sites such as Facebook.
