The company called LG hails from the Asian country of South Korean

. LG has not always been known by that name, instead operating under the moniker Goldstar in the early 1980s when it was restricted to manufacturing VGA monitors and floppy computer storage media. In more recent years LG has attained a reputation for quality products in categories such as cellular phones and flat screen TVs, as well as stackable washer dryers.

LG's latest in stackable washer dryers is something they call SmartDiagnosis. The central feature of SmartDiagnosis is that the machine will sing a tune or play some music to indicate a diagnostic error. The technology is supposed to help the consumer, but how can the consumer know what the machine is saying?

Regular consumers in fact cannot understand the machine. Instead it is intended for the technicians who are fixing the unit at home or at their repair center. The idea is that the musical diagnostics is a way of providing feedback which accelerates the repair process. LG appliances have long had many electronic problems rather than mechanical problems simply because they contain many more microchip components unlike simpler stackable washer dryers from competitors.

Purchasing an LG washer and dryer can be a little demanding for those who are dwelling in small residences, condominium or apartment units. First, they do not have the luxury of space that could easily accommodate big home equipment. Another reason is that washers and dryers, being bulky home equipment usually are not truly condominium and apartment friendly since they need so much space. For example some properties don't have gas lines or exhaust vents for the clothing dryer.

As a result of previously discussed problems, and the fact that there exists a market for it, manufacturers have engineered appliances which could easily fit in these small spaces. Due to the fact that these special appliances take almost no space, owners can readily store them below shelves, inside closets and may be neatly stored within small garages or basements. Furthermore, some of the new appliances don't even require exhaust lines to vent out the hot, damp air emitted from drying a load of clothing.

Three types of compact washer and dryers are called combo, stackable and portable. Washers and dryers that are stackable are just about full sized models except that they have a vertical style, which takes up little space. The combo however, has both washing and drying capabilities bundled in one machine. The smallest of the three kinds is the portable washer dryer.
