Quality charms are usually done by hand. Artisans create the design and make them to very attractive charms. One of the most common charm designs that are made is the initial charm. This kind of charm is usually given by the parent to his or her child as a remembrance or simply as jewelry.

The process of making these Initial Charms is not that different with the making of the other designs. Actually, there are two ways in making the silver charms. One way is the similar way of making charms while the other is by using silver clay.

The first way of making the initial charm is more complicated than the second one. The first that craftsmen do is to design the charm. Since Initial Charms only use letters, the artists create different fonts for variety. Then, they would produce a mold made of solidified rubber modeled from the original design. To solidify rubber, they subject the rubber to a very high temperature and pressure. Once this process is done, the model in the rubber wax is carefully removed by using a surgical knife. This step is very crucial because the quality of the initial charm depends on this. Next, the rubber mold is filled with wax which will be needed to be hardened. When the wax has become hard, it is removed from the mold and a model similar to the original design is reproduced. The quality control analyst will then inspect the model. If it passes the quality tests, the model will then be placed inside a cylinder which will be filled with plaster. The cylinder needs to be subjected to vacuum to remove air. After that, it will be washed. The only thing that will be left is the cavity in which silver will be poured in. After all that, it will undergo polishing twice. That is making initial charm through molding.

Another way of making Initial Charms is to form letters from clay. This is the easier way to create charms. Even you can do it! All you need to do is to form a shape of the letters desired. Once you are satisfied with the design, you may heat it on the oven. Silver needs to be heated at higher temperatures than gold. After the silver hardens, polishing is done. Once the silver is polished, it can be readily sold in the markets!

These are only two ways of making Initial Charms , or charms in general. The second process is easier but actually the first process is the one that most craftsmen follow. It is because quality jewelries are done through the molding process. Even if that is the case, molded silver jewelries are also advantageous especially for beginners. You can easily form them into shapes because you are working on clay unlike molds, which require very skillful hands in order for your work to turn out good.
