The Managers Guide To Increasing Productivity Via Workflow

Any managers job is to make sure that productivity is achieved at their level

. They will have workers to take care of and its their job to sort out any problems and to make sure all the work in their sector is completed. But any manager will be looking to increase productivity. And this can be done through a workflow diagram.

The Workflow Diagram

Any task, any objective, and any project has a series of steps that need to be taken in order to achieve the final goal. This can be represented in a graphical fashion by utilising one of these diagrams. At one end the goal will sit and each step and milestone that has to be accomplished will be written out in a giant chart. They can be incredibly complex or they can be incredibly simple, but they have a lot of benefits that can be gained by using them.

Why they are Critical

They are critical because they outline the path to glory and then highlight it for all workers. This means that there wont be any time lost by employees asking what needs to happen next. Each department or group of workers can have their own chart so they will be able to complete their work whilst knowing that all of the other groups have their areas covered. This ultimately allows the tasks to be completed quicker, and thus increasing productivity.

It also allows changed to be made. When everything is written down on paper it means that any potential flaws can be spotted. This is easier to do on paper as everybody can see it. Graphics cant be misinterpreted in this situation, whereas a managers words can. Furthermore, it allows for some more creativity as all workers are able to pitch their own ideas and potentially find a groundbreaking solution to a common problem.

Creating a Chart

The workflow chart can be created quite easily. They can either be created by utilising a simple pen and some paper or they can be elaborately created using specialised computer software. Much of this computer software will have to be bought by the company separately, but there are alternatives.

The most prominent alternative comes with Microsoft Office. Most versions of Microsoft Office these days come with a program called Microsoft Visio. This is a program that can help managers create those diagrams. Its then just a case of printing it out and then distributing it to the relevant people.
