The Many Benefits Of Mobile Marketing
According to recent statistics, over 80 percent of Americans currently own a cell phone
. But when you consider the fact that cellular technology is only about twenty years old, these figures are even more astounding. That makes cell phones one of the most popular technological devices in the country in a very short time. It is also true that a growing number of cell phone users are subscribing to some type of high-speed mobile data plan - the ones that allow you to surf the web, download videos and music and send pictures all from your phone.
It was perhaps this fact that prompted many new and established companies to turn to mobile marketing. Well, that and the fact that Internet marketing is more competitive than it has ever been and companies desperately need new ways to reach consumers. And the mobile phone market has long been an unexplored avenue.
So what is mobile marketing?
Mobile marketing consists of using text messages, mobile alerts, rich media or clickable links to get a users attention. Now, it is true that only cell phone users who subscribe to some sort of high speed mobile data plan will be able to click on a link, but that is still over 10 percent of current cell phone users and growing. Everybody else will simply receive a text, media message or alert.
What do companies hope to accomplish with mobile marketing?
As you might expect, as with any other form of marketing, they simply want to get you interested in their products or services. But because the content is somewhat limited, they are often forced to create specific advertisements. For example, a company may send you a text message about a new cheap service or a store might send you an alert about an upcoming sale. Again, these messages are intended to simply whet the customer's appetite and get them to visit the company's website.
They are really nothing more than commercials for cell phones and because of the enormous number of active phones; they have proven extremely effective at helping companies reach a wide audience.
When a company does decide to embark on a mobile marketing campaign, they must contact a company that provides basic phone marketing programs. A standard package will include text-for-info and text-for-content.
The text-for-info feature lets you send a basic text message to possible clients. These texts can promote new products, up coming sales, service or whatever else the company thinks might pique the customer's interest.
The text-for-content option, on the other hand, allows you to send rich mobile content to all potential clients. This rich content can include pictures, streaming videos as well as special ringtones. It is this feature that gives companies the opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competition. While a simple text can be quite useful, rich media is more like a traditional commercial and is therefore more likely to stick in a person's head.
The best thing about media marketing is that it is still an untapped resource, not to mention the fact that it is still comparatively cheap.
