The Many Causes And Treatments For Acne

Chances are that at some point in your life you have had a pimple or two pop up on your face

. This is not the case with everyone. Some people have breakout's of pimples, or full blown acne. Most of the time this happens to people who are in their teenage or early adult years of life.

Acne causes problems for the oil glands in the skin and occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged by sebum. Sebum is an oily chemical that is connected to the glands by follicles. A pimple forms when the follicle clogs up the skin pore. Pimples show up just about anywhere but tend to be mostly on the back, face, chest and shoulders. Anyone, regardless of age or race, can be affected by acne. Typically, acne disappears when someone reaches their early twenties. There are rare cases of people in their 40's to 50's suffering from acne, though.

Although it might seem like acne is a relatively simple problem it can cause a person to go through severe emotional distress. It is not uncommon for somebody with acne to develop severe anxiety, poor self esteem or even depression.

Science has not pinpointed a particular thing that causes acne. There are quite a few factors that may increase your chances of getting it, though. Genetics, skin infections, make-up (can clog the pores), environmental changes (such as humidity) and hormones (such as changes during puberty). Out of all these, genetics seems to be the leading indicator of who will end up with acne. If a family member suffered from it then you are likely to, as well.

The best time to treat acne is early. A treatment plan normally involves stopping new breakouts, healing the existing pimples and avoiding scars. Less serious acne breakouts respond well to OTC medications that are applied right to the skin. These mild medications come in gel, lotion and cream forms. Benzoyl Peroxide is a key ingredient that has been proven to work well. You can take care of your skin by taking care of your body. Be sure to cleanse your skin often, get a good amount of sleep and eat healthy.

If the acne is serious then your doctor might prescribe accutane for you. This is taken orally and is extremely effective at making acne disappear.

Herbal medicine has also proven itself effective in treating acne. Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree Oil) is an antifungal and antiseptic that works extremely well. Be sure you are using a diluted version of this. Azadirachta Indica and Articul Lappa also help to keep the skin in tip top shape. You can also use Lavender essential oil to help prevent scars.
