The Many Uses For Poly Bags

If you are anything like me, you have trouble throwing things away

. Haste makes waste. You can use your polypropylene bags for storage. Unlike boxes or crates they are airtight so no moisture, mold, mildew or moths can get in. If you have pictures, clothes, or other stuff you want to pack up and store in your attic, take some reclosable bags, pack your stuff and store it away. The same is true if you are renting a storage space to clear up some room in your house.

You can also use poly bags for your art projects. A quick Google search can get you directions on how to turn old plastic packaging into fabulous works of art. People have made dresses out of plastic gusset bags or header bags. Others have made purses, cups, quilts and other fun and fabulous goods out of poly bag packaging. If you have a creative inclination you should consider turning your old poly bags into something special.

One of the easiest projects to undertake is the plastic bag beanie. Just get a clear or other plastic bag and fold over the open end to make a brim. Then tie off the closed end and you have a shape loosely resembling a hat. Then you can work with the decorations on the bag by adding stickers, glue, paper and drawings. Now you have a fashionable and waterproof hat at little cost.

There is also a whole niche community of people who crochet with plastic bags. Staple bags, poly mailers, really any plastic product will work. Once these bags are braided into thick plastic cords they become extremely durable. Once you have a lot of these cords you can weave them together to create anything from a backpack to cup cozy. It's great because you are breathing new life into what many people would wrongfully consider trash.

If you are not that into arts and crafts you can still find many uses for your plastic packaging. Poly bags can be shredded and used as packing protection like you would use packing peanuts. Some people even stuff mattresses and pillows with them! You can also use them as mini garbage bags for your office or bathroom trash can. They are water tight so they work well at containing the mess. Same goes for scooping out pet droppings.

Don't think that the life of a plastic bag ends when you get home and unpack it. For the industrious person that is only the beginning!
