Conveyor systems are one of the most important pieces of equipment in the world

. They are used for moving materials in every location from manufacturing plants to the grocery store. They are a cost effective item that saves many hours of manpower while moving things quickly and efficiently.

You will find three main kinds of conveyor systems. They are the roller, the bucket (also known as the bucket elevator) and the screw conveyor. Each type of system performs quickly and efficiently in their job of moving everything from sewage to mining ore.

The roller conveyor consists of rollers that turn on a continuous basis, moving items from point A to point B. They can be powered or non-powered. The powered ones use an electric engine combined with some type of mechanism, while the non-powered one are placed on a slope so that the materials roll down an incline.

This is one of the most popular types of conveyors and is used mainly for light boxes and pallets. They are popular for things such as unloading ships, trains, and trucked items. They are also used in many stores and other locations to unload freight and perishable items. These units are also found in many packing and food preparation plants.

The bucket conveyor system moves materials in buckets and is used for moving loose materials such as mining ore, grain, liquids and other such materials. It is chain driven and the buckets can move vertically or horizontally, according to how the equipment is placed. This type of conveyor can be powered mechanically, hydraulically, electronically or even manually.

The screw conveyor is used to move liquids and loose materials that cannot be moved by the roller or bucket methods. The conveyor consists of a long metal tube containing a large screw. This screw forces the materials, through the tube, to the destination. It is capable of moving materials on an incline, horizontally or straight up. Their ability to fit into small places makes them very convenient to use when space is limited.

A great deal of care is given in the manufacturing of all of these conveyor systems. There are many small parts involved and each must be carefully constructed and properly located for safety. For this reason, OSHA requires the conveyor owners to have constant maintenance checkups to avoid a breakdown which might cause injury to workers. All conveyors are subject to government inspection at any time
