Anklets are worn traditionally by women. It was first introduced and followed in the Indian culture, mostly in Hinduism. During the course of time the anklets became an ornament. They also worn by Egyptians in the Predynastic period and the European in the late twentieth century. They were made of expensive materials like gold and also with the less expensive materials like silver and iron depending upon the social class. Egyptians dont wear anklets in public, but the dancers in Egypt still wear it in the public events.

Types and Varieties

These anklets come with the toe ring and the other variant comes with a chain attached to the toe ring. These are the two variants available on the market. Indians, especially Rajasthani people wore the heaviest anklets to signify tribals adherence. It is made of silver and it is still common in the rural areas of India. The types of anklets used are based on the material used which is either metal or nylon, leather, plastics and other such materials. The metal ones are of two types flexible and non flexible types. The flexible anklets are made of metals with links and there are bells which are attached to it to make sounds while walking. The non flexible metal anklets are often made with flat metals depending on the required shape.

Ornamental purpose

The anklets which are made with plastics, nylon materials are worn for ornamental purposes in the western countries. In countries like India bigger and anklets with more bells are worn by the dancers with bharatanatyam style and many other traditional dancing styles. In India and other sub continental countries like Nepal and Bangladesh the anklets are worn in both the legs by the female.

Market

The anklets are made with different material and the cost depends on the material with which the anklet is made. It ranges from minimum of Rs 100 to lakhs on the Indian rupees. Gold anklets are worn with women in higher financial status, whereas silver anklets are the most popular anklets in the market and they are also available in cheaper rates. Many of the people prefer silver anklets over gold as they may tend to lose it or damage it.

Future of anklets

The anklet market wont die off soon as anklets are not just fashion materials but they are part of a traditional which is laid many thousand years back.
