The Misunderstood Affliction of Migraine Headaches
Headaches may be terribly debilitating, and it is something many of us have had the misfortune to go through. If it comes to pain, the prevalent, ordinary headache does not even start to compare to migraine headaches. In fact, I used to have migraines when I was really young but they ended. I am so grateful they stopped because they were exceptionally painful. It is somewhat intriguing that headaches, and especially migraines, are not entirely understood by the medical community. There are many reasons for this not the least of which is many people can respond to and feel pain in different ways. But there is considerably more to this story which is challenging and has many pieces to it.
As you can envision, there continues to be a great deal of knowledge accumulated over the years. You can hear migraines referenced as a variety of vascular headache, and that simply means it is in connection with the system of veins along with vessels in our body. For one thing, there are many who can easily experience a migraine if they are subject to severe temperatures of either hot or cold. Then there can be other causes such as insufficient amounts of various physical needs connected with eating and sleeping. Exactly like with so many other medical problems, there are certain triggers that seem to influence this condition. Another reason for a migraine can be substantial and chronic levels of stress.
There happens to be research concerning the special features of migraines such as the fact they develop more gradually than other headaches. That suggests certain significance to doctors but nothing particularly definitive. Every bit of information can give some kind of clue. There may also be a genetic factor involved, however that would not seem to apply to all migraine sufferers. On the other hand, genetics is not associated with everybody, and so that is another facet that has to be considered.
Women can be susceptible to migraines due to hormone fluctuations. The normal menstrual cycle can frequently cause a migraine either preceeding or following the cycle. Estrogen doesn't continue being stable at these times for women. Then again, other major hormonal shifts take place in the course of pregnancy and menopause. As you may be thinking, there can be some who have higher occurence of migraines at those times. There is an established procedure called hormone replacement therapy which can create more intense migraines which is hard to imagine. But the thing that causes some difficulty is that these observations are not universal; they do not manifest for all women who experience migraines.
Other added migraine precursors involve overpowering scents from practically anything plus vibrant lights or loud music. So there is no apparent single cause that can be pinpointed with this affliction. Even more circumstances that lead to this can be a higher than usual amount of physical activity. All of that tends to make unraveling the mystery of migraines much more difficult.
