. The city is also known as Xamar. The city is located in the coastal Benadir region along the Indian Ocean. The city of Mogadishu serves as an important port for many countries since centuries. The city has a vast historical importance. The city was inhabited by hunter-gatherers of Bushman physical stock, who were late joined by Cushitic agro-pastoralists, who would go on to establish local aristocracies. It was followed by a number of invasions afterwards, lastly in August 2011, government troops and their AMISOM partners reportedly succeeded in forcing out Al-Shabaab from the parts of the city that the group had previously controlled. The Magadishu city is a multi-ethnic city. The population of the city consisted of a number of different cultures, Bushmen aboriginals being the original core population. Because of the invasions, Mogadishus traditional demographic makeup has changed significantly over the years. The Mogadishu International Airport also known as Aden Adde International airport serves as the international airport for the city of Mogadishu. In the mid 1960s the airport was enlarged to accumulate more international couriers, with the state owned Somali Airline providing regular trips to all major cities. The airports grounds and equipment were badly affected and destroyed by the civil war in the early 1990s. In the late 2010 period, the security situations in Mogadishu had significantly improved ,with the federal government eventually managing to assume full control of the city by the month of August of the following year.
In December 2011, Turkish government unveiled plans to modernize the airport as part of Turkeys broader engagement in the local post-conflict reconstruction process. Among the scheduled renovations are new systems and infrastructure, including a modern control tower to monitor the airspace.Due to the situations of the city in the past, the city has never been a tourist site. Very few airline service providers offer flights for Mogadishu. Some flight operators also offer very cheap flights to the city. The airlines that provide air travel services include the African Express Airways, Daallo Airlinesm Jubba Airways and the Turkish Airlines. In past many renovation projects have taken place and many plans are in process for the airport.
Some of the plans include the late 2010 plan by the SKA Air and Logistics, which is a Dubai based aviation firm that specialize in conflict zones, was contracted by the TFG to manage operations over a period of 10 years at the reopened Aden Adde International Airport.
