The Monte From Samsung-an Impressive Handset

Packed with a host of social networking features

, Samsung's latest handset, the Monte, look set to be one of the success stories of the coming summer months.

Lets start with the social network integration. It seems for any new handset to prove a success, the Twitter generation needs to be embraced. The Samsung Monte does this by including widgets for Facebook, MySpace and Twitter directly from the home screen, the first two of these sites actually having there own dedicated apps. A neat app entitled "Communities" allows for easy uploading to multiple sites, with handy facilities such as resizing of photos accounted for. Of course, this host of online facility isn't much good if you cannot actually het on line. The Monte doesn't let you down here. As well as having 3G and GPRS connectivity, a very handy addition is WiFi also being included. This means even quicker web browsing when the user is within range of their own router or a WiFi hotspot. The browser used on the Monte is developed by Samsung themselves and is an impressive affair. Featuring Flash support (take note Apple), one touch zooming and kinetic scrolling it really does work well, and is better than the browsers found on some of the more powerful "Smartphones" available.

The Samsung Monte certainly scores highly when it comes to its design and looks. The first thing you notice when you pick up the handset is its light weight, weighing just 92 grammes. Couple this with the neatly curved back panel and it means the phone does sit perfectly in your hand. The static buttons on the phone (volume, camera, lock, call) are all easily reached. The handset itself measures 108.8 x 53.7 x 12.4mm, similar to other handsets of its kind. The 3" TFT screen is a capacitive screen, and it responds very well to the users touch. The screen display 262k colours and show a WQVGA resolution of 320 x 420 pixels.

The camera on the Samsung Monte is a satisfactory, if not exciting affair. Despite its lack of an autofocus facility, pictures are still clear and video capture can be achieved at a rate of 15 frames per second. The microSD card slot on the side of the handset allows memory expansion up to 16GB, meaning plenty of storage space for your photos, as well as other media content.

The connectivity side of the Samsung Monte means it will immediately appeal to the younger social networking fans. However its competitive price pitches it alongside a whole host of other models, and looking at that group as a whole then the Monte seems a clear winner.
