The Most And Least Expensive Cities In Latin America

As the Latin American economies continue to flourish

, there are many issues that come forth. This includes the problems of urbanization, because people tend to flock to the cities for work, creating blight and other issues. Another problem is the wedge between rich and poor become bigger. This affects not only individuals in a country, but also between countries in the region and cities in the same country.

So, if one seeks to find a good location either for business or pleasure, the following cities in Latin America are the most expensive ones in the region:

Sao Paolo, Brazil. This Brazilian country is the 10th most expensive city in the world and is the most expensive one in the continent. Cost of living in this city is higher than the most expensive city in the United States, New York City.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is another Brazilian city where some think it's all party and merry making. It is also the financial capital of the country and rental space in the city is the fourth most expensive in the world, ahead of Paris, New York City, Mumbai and Milan.

Caracas, Venezuela. This South American country still has issues with criminality. It is also one of the most expensive countries in the world, with a McDonald's Big Mac costing nearly ten US dollars and a can of Campbell's soup is also a tad above nine dollars.

There are many reasons why the above cities are so expensive. For Brazil, the reason for the high costs is the inflation caused by the overvaluation of the country's currency. The high cost is also due to the flow of the money into the economy. As a raw material exporter, the costs of the finished products are far higher than what is available for the country to spend on.

The cheapest cities in Latin America are as follows:

La Paz, Bolivia. While the country is still in the process of developing, its economic rise has been much more manageable leading to a cost that is in line with the earning capacity of its populace. This makes for sound economics making the costs of living in the city well within reach of expats and locals alike.

Managua, Nicaragua. The city has now just starting to recover from years of disaster, civil unrest and governmental mismanagement. Now, governmental development policies have allowed business and commerce to progress and yet be able to manage inflation in the country.

Thus, in deciding on where to put your feet up or do business, finding the right city to do this would be imperative. High expense cities may provide many options but the least expensive may prove to be more value for your investment.
