The Most Important Couple Counseling For Christians: You And Jesus Christ

How many times have you heard that you must have a personal relationship with Jesus

to have eternal life? How many of you truly feel confident in your understanding of this requirement. Perhaps you will allow me to briefly touch on some points which explain this concept more fully.

We often hear how evangelical efforts result in many being converted to Christianity. If such progress is being made, how could Jesus have said that the road to destruction is wide and only a few find the narrow path? We are also struck by Jesus making such comments as many will say they used His name while alive, only to find Jesus saying He never knew them.

Jesus made it very clear that if the relationship with anyone or anything is more important than the relationship with Him, then you do not have Him. Thus, it seems imperative to truly understand this personal relationship, and the need to make it the single highest priority. How can one do this?

As in couple counseling with humans, understanding ones partner is important. In other words, if you do not know the personality and desires of your spouse, how can you learn to deal with them effectively? If you fall in love with someone, you try to get to know as much about them as possible. In your relationship with Jesus, this is the same. Get to know Him by reading your Bible daily. It explains the personality of God.

Another aspect of couple counseling with Jesus is to talk to Him frequently. Praying is one aspect of this, and reading the prayers Jesus made is a healthy step in learning to pray effectively. But do not overlook simply conversing aloud with Him during the course of the day, as you would with a friend. This tends to make Him much more real.

A final thing in Christian couple counseling that can be done is to remind yourself that He did not say it was your behavior or your things that He prizes the most. It is your faith in Him. Faith in Him means that you admit you and all other humans are all in the same boat, being incapable of ever achieving perfection and eternal life. You admit he is the only way and that you want more faith in His power and control.
