The Motorola Razr Offers A Superb Software Package For All Users
The new Razr handset from Motorola is not only one the highest specification devices
currently available but also one of the easiest to use thanks to the software it incorporates. We take a look at the google Android operating system used by this model together with the new user interface developed by Motorola.
The Motorola Razr is fitted with the Gingerbread version of the hugely popular Google Android operating system. Considering that Google actually own Motorola it is surprising to see that the model does not feature the latest Ice Cream Sandwich version of the OS however an update will soon be made available for this platform. The operating system offered by this new phone is still one of the very best available and features numerous improvements over earlier versions such as better video calling facilities, enhanced support for VOiP applications and a useful task manager facility. When we first heard news of the Razr handset we were concerned that the model would use the awkward Motoblur user interface that Motorola fitted on many earlier smartphones. Thankfully Motoblur as we know it is not present on this model and in its place is a new and improved UI that is very similar to the design of the Android Honeycomb OS that was developed for tablet devices. An attractive carousel design gives you a great overview of all of your available homescreens and the lock screen looks superb complete with its animation that looks rather like an old fashioned television being switched off. This format was used on the successful Google Nexus S phone and there is no doubt that it has found its way onto the Motorola handset thanks to Google's ownership.
Using the Motorola Razr is a pleasure thanks to its simple and uncomplicated user interface. Android is a very complex operating system and therefore it is the job of the UI to provide simple operation of all the features available. A great example of a simple UI is the Sense service developed by HTC whilst a complicated version such as the original Motoblur can simply confuse the user and be disastrous for sales of the device. Widgets can be resized on the Razr which means you can have your more frequently used options dominating the display and opt for a much smaller size for features you rarely use. Notifications can be accessed by a simple downwards swipe on the screen. Thanks to the powerful 1.2Ghz dual core processor that the phone uses swiping between your homscreens is a very speedy affair with no noticeable delay between transitions. Multitasking is also very quick and when performing several tasks at the same time there is no ill effect on performance times offered by this device.
The Motorola Razr offers a super software package that makes using this device a very simple affair. The decision to remove the old fashioned Motoblur user interface was a wise one whilst the option to upgrade to newer versions of Android means that this model is well equipped for the future.
