Music on plane radio is really terrible

Music on plane radio is really terrible. First things first, it's entirely unclear why aircraft continue feeling like they need to supply radio to the people onboard.

With everyone wanting to listen to music already owning their own digital music player, it's unclear why so many planes still offer terrible airplane radio on various channels through the in flight entertainment system. The airplane radio channels usually cover a range of genres and try to present it as if you're listening to a radio show, with a radio host introducing the songs. These stations, tuned to outdated genres like adult contemporary and jazz provide such a poor standard of music that it makes sense to do away with them all together. Quite simply flights from Milwaukee to Denver are not enhanced by in flight radio, and it seems that while in flight entertainment system designers have done a good job in terms of the moving image, they've done a bad job in terms of provided music coverage.

Perhaps they've been focusing so closely on the moving image side of things, that they've neglected that some people do not have iPods and that these people would like whole catalogues of music that they are able to listen to make flights from Albany to Los Angeles go a little faster. There is one airline however that is succeeding where all others have failed. Virgin America are able to allow you to listen to the entire back catalogue of Pink Floyd while on board flights from Phoenix to Las Vegas, for example.

This is surely the future of in-flight entertainment and the sooner the other airlines catch on, the better. Streaming music service on many new and old classic albums should be standard, just like how you can watch new release movies while on a plane.
