The Must Have Guitar Accessories When Purchasing Your First Guitar
You are in the music store and a nice electric guitar has caught your eye
. You have the time to learn, but what else will you need besides the guitar to get you started? Most guitars don't come with the accessories, so below is a list of those essential accessories that you will want.
1. Guitar Picks - They are those little colorful pieces of plastic usually found near the counter of a store. You may be overwhelmed by the variety of colors, shapes and sizes that they call come in. Your best bet is to purchase about 10 guitar picks to get you started. They generally cost between .30 - .80 cents each. If you are just starting to play, you usually want to start with a Medium gauged pick. These guitar picks are labeled with a "M" or will have a number between the gauges .62mm - .83mm printed on them.
2. Guitar Straps - This is another item with a wide variety of choices. Most of them come in either leather, nylon webbing, suede, or imitation leather. Most are adjustable, but try the strap onto the guitar to make sure it fits you and the guitar.
3. Guitar Polish - You will want to keep you guitar clean and shiny. When looking for a polish, try to look for a gentle polish that contains no harsh chemicals or solvents. A non-toxic polish that uses natural ingredients is usually your best bet to make sure it doesn't harm the delicate finish on your guitar.
4. Guitar Strings - If you are a beginner and playing acoustic it is generally best to start with nylon strings. They are easiest on your fingers until you start to build up calluses. If you are playing electric guitar select flat-wound strings.
5. Guitar Tuner - Usually an inexpensive electric tuner will do the trick. This will help you learn how to get your guitar in tune and keep it in tune. Electric tuners are generally easiest for beginners to use. They have electric displays to indicate the pitch of the string.
6. Chord Chart - A simple chord chart will show you the various chords you can make with your new guitar. This will allow you to start practicing your guitar by alternating different chords to make sounds you find pleasing.
The above items are the basics that will really get you off to the right start on your guitar playing endeavor. Once you have mastered these, you can also try out guitar slides, guitar capos, and effect pedals to enhance your playing.
