Going Through the Process
As the valuation of your diamond or diamond jewellery must be as accurate as possible, all facets of the piece must be individually appraised. Symmetry uses both acid and electronic testing, weight analysis and gem identification processes. All of these factors are compared against market demand and trends.
Purpose of the Appraisal ~ The purpose of the appraisal is your own unique reason for having your piece appraised by Symmetry. It could be for insurance purposes, part of a deceased estate, or for when you have purchased a piece of My Diamonds, fabulous diamond jewellery or loose diamonds and wish for verification.
Metal Test ~ This test will identify the caratage of the jewellery, either, 9ct, 14ct, 18ct. The tests are carried out using acid or electronic methods.
Gemstone Identification ~ The gemstone will be identified, ranging from analysis through a x10 loupe (an eyeglass) through to a more complex analysis using a microscope. Tests using ultra violet light or refractive index analysis are also carried out.
Quality Analysis ~ Gemstone grading is arrived at through examination of colour, cut and clarity
Size Analysis ~ This is where a measurement and weight analysis is carried out
Manufacture Identification ~ The manufacturing technique of the piece is analysed to ascertain whether it is cast, handmade or a combination of the two
Identify the Type of Settings and Quantity ~ Each constituent of the piece is given a price. This covers the mount, setting and gemstones. The prices are then combined to form the valued price for the clients unique purpose.
Valuation Report ~ A report is then provided on an appraisal certificate which includes high definition photography
