The Mysterious Numbers Behind The Blood Pressure Chart
That paper on which the doctor or nurse jots down blood pressure reading results is the blood pressure chart
. The BP chart is an important part of the medical records as this is where part of the medical history of the patient is recorded. With the changing numbers in the readings, the doctor can determine whether the patient is a high risk one or not.
There are 4 things to look out for in the BP chart: the normal or base numbers, the prehypertensive numbers, the Stage 1 hypertension and the Stage 2 hypertension. The changing numbers of the pressure readings will indicate if the concerned patient belongs to one of the four categories. With the chart, the doctor can see the development of a risk that may or may not involve a heart attack.
The normal BP is measured in millimetres mercury or mmHg. For normal pressures, two pressures are taken at the same time: the systolic and the diastolic pressures. The systolic should be around 90 to 119 mmHg and the diastolic should be around 60 to 70 mmHg. If a little rise over and above those normal numbers then it can be considered as prehypertension. If there is a dramatic increase, then the doctor would have to diagnose either a stage one or a stage two hypertension.
If your BP chart never shows an increase or decrease in the numbers, continue whatever it is that you are doing. Maintain that healthy lifestyle that you are leading. If you are bordering on the unhealthy, then stop and avoid that course. You would want to maintain your numbers. However, if the chart already starts to show moderate increases in your numbers, then change your lifestyle and adopt something healthier. Do not wait for the moment when the blood pressure chart starts spewing out numbers that indicate Stage 1 and Stage 2hypertension and where there is now a concern for your health and life.
Moreover, the BP chart can also be used at home for a home monitoring activity. This activity is done even when there is no need for concern or after a stay in the hospital. This is a great tool to use especially as the recording of BP readings are really important basis of information in case of any emergency.
Anyone of the family member can make a blood pressure chart just like anyone can use a BP machine that can be bought almost anywhere. As the apparatus also comes with information of how to use inclusive of a chart to base results on, it is quite user friendly. A blood pressure chart is not something to be afraid of, it is just a piece of paper where you can write numbers based from readings, and you can even use a pencil or a ballpen.
