The Nation's favourite takeaway

Despite calls for healthier eating, us Brits remain staunch in our loyalty towards takeaway food

. Sure, it may not be an every day choice, but whether it's once a week or once a month, treating ourselves to a chippy tea or Chinese meal remains one of our favourite pastimes.

But which takeaway is our favourite? Are we still chip obsessed after 150 years? Have the major curry centres in cities like Birmingham and Manchester put Indian at the top of our list? How about pizza or Chinese?

Here are the top takeaway options:

Chinese - According to research, Chinese food is now the nation's favourite takeaway option. The most popular takeaway dishes are apparently Sweet and Sour Pork; Chow Mein and Peking Duck.

Indian - Another hot favourite (see what we did, there?) is the curry, with many now considering it the national dish. With dishes like Chicken Tikka Korma, rogan josh and tandoori specialities, it's no wonder that's the case.

Chippy - After 150 years of being the nation's favourite dish, is fish and chips no more? Of course not. According to recent studies, 20 per cent of all Friday takeaways are from the local chip shop, so there's plenty of life yet.

Pizza - With endless topping choices and easy-to-share sizes, pizza remains a popular part of British culture.

Kebab - Come the end of a night on the town, people who traditionally don't eat kebabs find themselves drawn to the nearest takeaway facility to order a doner kebab.

Fast-food - McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and many more besides continue to thrive with their offerings of (mostly) fried meals.
