The Nba - Not That Great? Why Not Look At Basketball From Spain

When many people think about basketball they think about crossing the Atlantic and

the glitz and glamour of the NBA but not many people know that there is are leagues that are just as, if not more competitive.

The ACB is considered one of the three A level European national domestic leagues in the ULEB League Rankings system. The league is seen as one of the best and most elite basketball leagues in Europe and even in the world, although some would argue that statement mainly the ones that follow the one that makes the most money over in America. The league is played under FIBA rules and features 18 teams. Each team plays one home and away match and at the end season the top eight clubs face each other in a playoff elimination, this is almost the same the NBA but the ACB's version is best out of five rounded matches rather than seven

The two teams that are the most successful in Spain are ironically the same teams that are successful in football. They are Real Madrid and Barcelona between them they have won over 100 titles between them. They have won the past 20 and featured in 24 of the past 26 ACB finals. There are a few other teams also run by their football counterparts such as Valencia whose basketball equivalent is Valencia Basket Club.

There are many players that have played or are still playing the NBA that played for these teams such as Arvydas Sabonis, Draen Petrovi, Rony Seikaly, Marc Gasol, Anderson Varejo, Juan Carlos Navarro, arnas Jasikeviius, Dejan Bodiroga and Tony Massenburg.

There is one player who has probably had the most success in the NBA out of all these players and he is Paul Gasol. He played for Barcelona for two years and had won Spanish King's Cup and the Spanish League. He won the MVP award at both finals. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks but was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. With this team he won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and currently holds the record for most career games played, minutes played, field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, offensive, defensive, and total rebounds, blocked shots, turnovers, and points.

But after seven dedicated seasons he finally made the move to one of the top teams in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers. He was seen as part of the puzzle that would make the Lakers the dominate force they used to be and he instantly clicked with Kobe Bryant from the start. In the same year they made it to the NBA finals making him the first Spaniard to reach the finals, but they were beaten in six games against the Boston Celtics. The following two years the Lakers won the NBA championships Back to Back with them getting revenge on Boston in the latest finals win. He has also earned to all star appearances and has featured in the in the All NBA Third Team selection.

This is part of the many reasons why you can't count out the Spanish players or players than come from the leagues, they don't just stay in their Spanish Villas.
