The New HTC HD7 Featuring Windows 7 OS
The HD7 looks set to follow in the footsteps of previous great models from HTC such as the Desire and Legend. This new handset moves away from the favoured Android route to offer a new operating sysytem in addition to one of the largest displays currently available.
After the disappointment of previous Windows mobile attempts, it is easy to be sceptical about this latest offering. Windows 7 however looks a far different proposition, and looks well equipped to take on the likes of iOS and Android in the market they have dominated for so long. The head start that Windows has is that as a brand it is already widely used by pc owners everywhere. Add to this the superb functionality on offer and the visually superb layout, and the OS looks set to be a winner. The homescreen is made up from a series of hubs, which are like tiles that not only feature the name of the area they relate to, but also have the capacity to display relevant information. An example of this is on the People hub, where constantly revolving picture of your friends are displayed. Synchronisation with Fcebook is possible thanks to a good set of connectivity options, however Twitter fans will have to wait for an update before they can enjoy this facility. 3G, EDGE and GPRS all allow for a great connection whilst on the move, whilst WiFi offers unparralled service when connected to a personal network. The high resolution, large screen is perfect for taking advantage of the excellent operating system, where colours look vivid and text looks crystal clear.
The hardware found on the HTC HD7 matchs the superb quality of the software. Any task you ask the HD7 to perform does so at a quick pace thanks to a hefty 1Ghz processor onboard. The new IE6 web facility is also impressively fast, thanks in part to the excellent connection options mentioned earlier. Any web pages where text appears a little on the small side can be easily enlarged by using the pinch and zoom method thanks to multi touch support. The phones display is another area that will attract many fans. AT 4.3" it is one of the largest display available, but thanks to minimal housing aroud the screen, the unit itself is not too large to be practical as a mobile phone. The display offers a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and incorporates a proximity sensor and an accelerometer chip. The HTC HD7 looks set to capitalise on the excellent Windows 7 system, and backed up by some great technology and a huge screen, there is no doubt that this model will prove to be yet another success for the manufacturers.
The HTC HD7 and the Nokia N8 Green are available now.
