A new handset has joined the smartphone ranks alongside the likes of the HTC Desire and the Apple iPhone 4

. The new Samsung Galaxy S runs on the much favoured Android operating system and boasts an array of features to keep phone fans everywhere happy.

In line with the current revolution that is happening in the home television market, the Samsung Galaxy S is one of an elite band of handsets than is capable of capturing video in High Definition quality. Not so long ago manufacturers only added video as another selling feature, and quite often these were very low resolution, VGA quality affairs. Even the Apple iPhone only introduced video recording on last years 3GS model. Now rather than being an after thought, the video recording on the Galaxy S is one of the defining features of the phone. Film is shot in a resolution of 720 progressively scanned lines, or as it is more commonly known, 720P. You need not worry about the video eating huge chunks of the 8GB or 16GB internal memory either. Thanks to a micro SD cards slot, an additional 32GB can be installed on the phone. If you are taking a still shot with the Galaxy S, the result are just as pleasing. The 5 mega pixel camera benefits from auto focus as well as a bevy of manual setting to allow you to really make the most of your snap. Connectivity options are extensive, with people who are continuously on the move benefiting from superb 3G coverage, in addition to EDG/GPRS for those times when you are out of 3G range. The phone is also WiFi enabled for the best online experience.

One striking aspect of the Samsung Galaxy S is how surprisingly slim the phone is. At just 9.9mm, the phone has the excellent Super AMOLED screen for its slim look. This screen technology uses a single sheet in its construction rather than the two used on traditional AMOLED screens. This allows the manufacturers to make the chassis so eye pleasingly slim. The screen does not only benefit in terms of its size, the excellent quality WVGA 480x800 resolution produces mouth watering images, eclipsing every other phone available apart from perhaps the excellent iPhone 4 which uses the new Retina display. The screen has a measurement of 4", which is bigger than many of its competitors. The usual array of sensors are incorporated into the phone. Auto Rotate functions are performed by the accelerometer whilst the proximity sensor locks the screen automatically. HD Video capture as well as the excellent user interface combine to make the Samsung Galaxy S one of the most impressive smartphones to date.
