The New Samsung Galaxy S-A New Smartphone Heavyweight
The Android Smartphone market welcomes another heavyweight in the form of the new Samsung Galaxy S
. This new model boasts a massive 4" screen and looks to go head to head with HTC for the title of best Android phone, whilst also keeping the people at Apple on their toes.
The Samsung Galaxy S offers a wide array of media features to keep fans happy. The camera is located on the back of the handset and offers a 5 mega pixel resolution. This figure seems to have been adopted by the industry as the standard resolution, and the phone does produce a clear quality of image. When looking at the camera function a little closer, it is impressive just how many features Samsung has crammed in. In addition to the usual settings, you can also find scene options that allows you to select the style of photograph you are taking. For example there are options for landscape shots, portraits and sports. For a little creative fun with your snaps the phones vintage and cartoon modes will raise a giggle, but on a serious note there are some genuinely useful options such as white balance controls for those who want to feel a little bit more professional. Video capture really stands out thanks to its 1280 x 720 resolution, which is classified as High Definition quality, and users need not worry about storage space. If the 8GB or 16GB internal memory is inadequate, the micro SD card slot will accept cards upto 32GB. Music playback is great, the 3.5 headphone jacks means a variety of headphones can be used, the large screen displays cover art in great quality and some useful functions make using it a pleasure. For example, a handy feature allows you to skip tracks and adjust volume whilst the screen is locked, making the whole process much less complicated than on some models.
Measuring 122.4 x 64.2mm x 9.9mm, the chassis of the
Samsung Galaxy S is fairly standard smart phone dimensions, although the impressive depth does feel incredibly streamlined. Also the weight of the phone is very lightweight at just 119 grammes. You can attribute this weight to the fact that the body is entirlely plastic, however this does make the phone feel slightly cheaper than some of its counterparts. No report on the Galaxy S would be complete without a mention of the superb screen. Measuring 4", the screen utilises Super AMOLED technology to produce a wafer thin display that works superbly well in sunlight. The 480 x 800 resolution produces crisp images and is ideal for displaying both media footage or web pages. Zoom is achieved via the pinch and zoom method thanks to the screen supporting multi touch technology. The Samsung Galaxy S is certainly worthy of its place near the top of the smartphone tree. Whether it will ultimately prove more popular than the likes of Apple and HTC remains to be seen, but regardless this is a very pleasing mobile phone indeed.
