The Nokia E5 Is An Impressive Messaging Smartphone

Nokia are beginning to recognize that having a smartphone capable of advanced messaging

is a must among the business community, and personal users are also beginning to enjoy the versatility phones like Blackberrys offer. Nokia have recently developed a dedicated messaging smartphone to compete with the likes of RIMs Blackberry phones; the Nokia E5 boasts a full QWERTY keyboard which supports the wide range of messaging options provided by the Symbian platform.

As looks go, the E5 looks reasonably cool, however it would suite the professional community more, but with Blackberry overcoming that issue the E5 should have no problem. The 2.36 inch TFT screen will comfortably display over 260,000 colours in a 320 x 240 format while the QWERTY keyboard underlines the screen perfectly. The corporate colour scheme covers shades of brown, grey, white, and blue as variations for buyers and the screen has been mounted horizontally for an optimized browsing and messaging.

The Symbian S60 OS incorporates live information feeds into the home screen where stream of news, mail and status updates can be viewed. The home screen can also be customized with widgets which act as shortcuts to your favourite and most used applications. The E5 has been enriched with 2G and 3G network coverage, while Wi Fi supplies a super fast connection at wireless hotspots like airports and train stations. The web browser is very smooth thanks to the 600MHz processor working hard behind the scenes and bookmarks can be saved, it is also capable of supporting basic flash content (Flash Lite).

The E5s messaging options include the basic SMS and MMS along with various e-mail clients, including push e-mail and Instant Messengers. Social networking is also a big player with dedicated apps covering Twitter and Facebook. More apps can be downloaded thanks to access to the Ovi Store; apps for gaming, navigation and, messaging can be found in the many thousand strong collection along with more themes and wallpapers to decorate the E5s UI.

A 5MP camera is well equipped to manage day-to-snaps and filming; it is accompanied by a flash and will handle video shooting to about 15fps. All of your video footage and still images can be uploaded to the web with prime candidates like Facebook and YouTube being fully compatible with the E5. The microUSB connection will enable user to synch the phone to there PC while the phones memory can be upgraded to 32GB via the microSD slot.

Nokia have provided a multimedia player which will support numerous file types and it also supports an FM radio tuner for users to stay up to date with there favourite shows. A 3.5mm audio jack enables the use of headphones and a wireless Bluetooth connection lets the E5 communicate with compatible hardware devices.

From the looks of things Nokia are still in the experimental stage when it comes to a truly great QWERTY messenger. The E5 has the basis for something good and would be very suitable for business type folk, but doesnt yet have that broad mass appeal which RIM have found with there Blackberry phones.
