. The Nokia N8 is packed full of high spec technology, including a digital camera capable of HD video and a brand new operating system in the form of the Symbian ^3 OS. Nokia have for so long been behind in the smartphone race, but the N8 could be there ticket to success.

The N8 doesn't look typically Nokia, and it has much smoother lines than the X6 and N97. The 3.5 inch AMOLED screen has 16:9 nHD (640 x 360) pixel resolution and is capacitive for multi touch control. A built in orientation sensor allows the phone to auto rotate for landscape viewing, this is great for the hardcore messengers out there who like the QWERTY alternative to message composing. The Anodized aluminium casing is very hard wearing and comes in a range of colours, including Orange, Blue and Green.

The new Symbian platform has been debuted on the N8. The application based interface is loaded with widgets and icon representing the core functions like the internet browser and multimedia player. The menu system is much like that on the N97 though it has been refreshed for easier usability. You are presented with three home screens which you can customize and having live feeds for news channels and social networks can be integrated into the main screen. Nokia are also allowing there respected customers to access the online app store for thousands of additional applications to download.

Nokia have equipped the N8 with the now, obligatory social network integration. One application handles Facebook and Twitter; it gathers information, like statue updates, posts and tweets and displays them all in one, convenient place. The N8 is also packed with plenty of messaging and e-mail outlets; e-mail, IM, SMS, MMS and social network management is all possible. The phone is also supported by an office document viewer for the esteemed business user.

Both 3G and Wi Fi support the N8's various online capabilities. The web browser delivers a full internet experience while the multi touch functionality allow for easy control. The device is mostly, Flash compatible and you can upload videos and photos to the web via the phones clever sharing facilities. With integrated GPS and A-GPS receivers, the N8 is capable of using Ovi Maps as a navigation tool, so getting lost will be impossible if you have a Nokia N8.

Nokia have combined a fully loaded 12MP digital camera with the optical mastery of Carl Zeiss. The result is astonishing. The phone can produce beautiful, crisp still images and smooth high clarity video recordings in HD. You can hook up the phone to your home cinema system via the HDMI connection for a big screen experience. The video player is very high spec and allows full playback in a number of formats. The music player also lets you play music in multiple file formats. A 3.5mm AV connection lets users plug in there own headphones and the microSD slot will accept upgrades up to 32GB.

It is quite clear Nokia have realized they had a lot of catching up to do and the N8 could be the dawn of a new era for the Finnish communication giants. This phone is absolutely packed full of top spec technology in all fields, the media side has a superb digital camera and very capable music and video players. While the phones online and messaging features will rival any of the top ten smartphones which currently dominate the market.
