The Not Very Lonely Solitaire Ring
On hearing the word solitaire, the notion of loneliness may immediately emerge and
the first thing that will most likely pop up in a persons mind is the mental picture of someone sitting alone in a quiet room, laying down cards on a table, playing the game that is also known by the very name solitaire. The solitaire used in solitaire ring does refer to the meaning one, but here it refers to the use of one single solitary stone, as a solitaire ring generally refers to a ring set with a single stone. But the solitaire ring hardy connotes the meaning of loneliness. As a matter of fact, it even symbolizes the end of ones loneliness, when we are talking about the likes of solitaire engagement rings and heart shaped valentine gift rings.
Solitaire rings may be made as wedding bands, engagement rings, gifts for valentines and other special occasions, or just as a personal charm. It is very common as an engagement ring and the heart shaped one as a gift for ones true valentine. The stone used for the solitaire ring can be diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald, cubic zirconia, or any kind of stone based on ones feel for it, occasion, beliefs, or budget. The shape of the stone may be heart shaped, oval shaped, asscher cut, cushion cut, marquise cut, pear shaped, princess cut or radiant cut and the carat size will of course vary. The most appropriate cut and size of depends on several factors, including the size and shape of the wearers fingers and hand and his or her personal feel.
Solitaire rings are normally set in two different ways: prong and bezel. The prong is best for emphasizing the size and the brilliance of the stone. Moreover, it allows more light to pass through the stone enabling it give out a greater shine and sparkle. It is also the more popular choice for setting stones in solitaire rings and it does give greater visibility of the stone. But there are still people who prefer the bezel setting saying that prong setting can snag clothing and if the prongs are weak, one is liable to lose the stone without ones awareness. Setting in bezel gives a better degree of protection as the metal surrounds the stone, but it also means to a certain extent that lesser light passes through the stone. Of course the debate still goes on as to which setting is better but it most likely depends on the personal preference than anything else.
What ever choice you make, whether with the type of stone, its setting, or even the metal used, whether if it is made in platinum, gold, or silver, the main thing is the satisfaction it brings to the one wholl be wearing it. After all, the solitaire ring may be your key for escaping from a solitary life.
