The Nutcracker Houston Tickets - Enjoy 40 Years Of Classic Ballet

Everyone knows the story - and the music

Everyone knows the story - and the music. This holiday season, treat yourself to a classic story where sugar plum fairies dance in children's heads, king mice rule the stage and tutus are always in fashion. The Nutcracker, which is an annual treat around the country, is performing at Houston's Wortham Theater Center from Nov. 27 through Dec. 27.

It is sure to provide a warm welcome into the holiday season. The Ben Stevenson production has been deemed by The Houston Chronicle as the "crown jewel of holiday entertainment," and if you want to enjoy this holiday special, get The Nutcracker tickets - Houston.

The story of The Nutcracker is legendary. Clara, a young girl who is given a magical nutcracker doll for Christmas, is taken on a magical journey through a fairy land where she encounters the evil rat king, the prince (otherwise known as the Nutcracker), the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. From brilliant theatrics created by Stevenson and Desmond Heeley to the classical music enjoyed by all during the holiday season thanks to Peter Tchaikovsky, this ballet is a family treat that is brilliant every year.

The Houston Ballet has welcomed The Nutcracker into its performance routine for four decades; the show was the first full-length staging for the performance troupe, created by Frederic Franklin with scenery and costumes by Peter Farmer. The Houston Ballet also welcomed a live orchestra for the first time during The Nutcracker premiere, opening with six shows in 1972 at the Jones Hall of the Performing Arts. Just a few years after opening, artistic director Stevenson came aboard and revised some of the choreography, followed by the current designs by Desmond Heeley.

This season, as the Houston Ballet celebrates its 40th anniversary with this beloved tale, a special promotional video portrayed in the light-hearted tone of the story was created: "'Twas right before Christmas and all through the town/ children were dreaming of candy and clowns/ visions of beauty, of princes and kings/ of laughter and music, and holiday things/ 'twas the Nutcracker dream by Houston Ballet/ a dream come to life when you act today/ so spring to your phone, and give us a call/ for Nutcracker tickets, for one, for all!" The show, which is expected to welcome at least 70,000 patrons this year following the $3.4 million revenue from last, is sure to be another unique spectacle.

The original ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman's fable The Nutcracker and the King of Mice. The story, according to the Nutcracker Ballet, was originally transformed into a stage production featuring tutu-clad dancers by Marius Petipa following a revised edition by Alexander Dumas. Petipa commissioned Tchaikovsky for a second time (the two had worked successfully on The Sleeping Beauty) to write music for the ballet from Hoffman's story.

The imagery began to take shape in August 1892 following the story's publication in 1816. Hoffman's tale was originally published in a set of dark children's tales where the evil, seven-headed Mouse King must be beheaded. The ballet first premiered in December 1982 with Ricardo Drigo as the conductor and Antonietta dell'Era as the Sugar Plum Fairy.
