However, as with any professional instrumentalist, an oboist is able to adjust their embouchure to compensate for any small discrepancies.

The instrument is conical bore in design rather than the cylindrical bore of instruments such as is the flute or clarinet, and it is for this reason alone that oboes more than any other instrument are more audible than most other instruments being played in a large ensemble. There are many variations of the classic oboe and indeed there are similar instruments which have evolved in different cultures worldwide, all unique but similar and all with a unique voice and subtlety.
