When considering a Nationalized Health Care system we must also keep in mind that while this type of system may very well help those who are uninsured to gain the benefits they need, reducing the amount of money spent on health care could significantly reduce the amount of research that is being done in the study of diseases like cancer and HIV, just to name a few.

All the cost associated with American health care might not seem so high, if you further investigate what part of the money is being used for. New medicines, procedures, technological advances in machines as well as research for new and better treatments and screening for diseases that are killing people are being funded. Without this scientific research, America's leading edge in the medical industry would be reduced to that of less advanced nations and the world as a whole would lose needed beneficial information to help improve our lives through modern medical advances.

While the bigger picture would paint the overall numbers of people being able to have affordable health care options, they fail to report the lack of much needed funds required to make medical advancements possible. Other countries with a government run health care system have to depend on other nations to come up with new and better more effective ways to treat the health problems of its population.

Medical breakthroughs cost money. Lots of money. One of the misunderstood realities of the high cost of medical care is the cost of research and development of cures and major advancements in the industry as a whole. The United States has been a leader in the health care industry for many decades. Changing to a nationalized, government controlled system of health care might make more affordable health care available for more people, but at a cost that could see new technologies and medical advancements come to a stand still, making treatment less effective at any cost for everyone.
