The Orange Mobile Network Today

Orange Mobile started way back in 1994. The company was founded by Hutchison Telecom and was later purchased by Mannesmann in 1999. Vodafone would later purchase Mannesmann and the carrier was forced to sell Orange Mobile to France Telecom as having two licenses within the UK was not allowed. As a subsidiary of France Telecom, the Orange has continued to grow throughout the years as it provided various mobile network services throughout the Europe. It is considered to be the fifth in the list of the worlds largest mobile network operators with over 200 million subscribers. In the UK, the company has 17 million subscribers. Currently, the biggest news surrounding the company is that it is its parent; France Telecom will be having a merger with the German based Deutsche Telekom (parent company of T-Mobile). It is expected that Orange and T-Mobile will still be operating independently for the meanwhile. The subsidiary is currently housed at Bristol, England, UK and is run by CEO Tom Alexander. The company provides mobile telecommunications services, products, as well as broadband and internet services and products (the ISP service offered by Orange was originally branded as Wanadoo but it was later rebranded to Orange last 2006). Oranges PAYG Deals Like many other carriers, Orange offers a wide variety of deals and plans for pay-as-you-go clients. While the prices are not as cheap as compared to those on monthly pay rates, the PAYG flexibility more than makes up for the cost; also, Orange gives some of the most tempting deals on certain mobile devices. Currently, one of the biggest budget saving deals on pay-as-you-go is the BlackBerry Curve 8520 which is available at a price of 149 Pounds, a full 30 Pound discount. The Samsung S5600 is being sold for 99 Pounds, giving buyers a 20 Pound price cut. Some of the cheaper devices like the Samsung E1360 however are sold at standard retail prices (19 Pounds). Dolphin, Raccoon and Panther If you have seen the various pay-monthly plans offered by Orange, the unique animal names can be both amusing and confusing. The reason for the naming convention is that each animal corresponds to a specific type of plan. Orange has created monthly plans that cater specifically to the varying needs of their clients. Take the Dolphin for example; plans under the Dolphin label concentrate more on texting than any other feature by providing unlimited texts with low call minute allowances. The Raccoon on the other hand has unlimited landline calls for users who are often on the phone. Panther plans give unlimited email sending capabilities, perfect for those who have online correspondences. Recycle through Orange Despite being a consumer-based company, Orange UK recognizes its environmental responsibility. Orange does not manufacture mobile phones, but it does help sell a certain percent of the 15 million mobile phones disposed each year. In order to help solve the problem, Orange is offering to recycle your old electronic devices. As an incentive, certain devices are eligible for a cash reward when given up for recycling.About the Author:
