. From its iron frame to its mosaic tinted walls, the palace embodies refined taste and grandeur; it is majestic, awe-striking and in short has royalty written all over its every surface and view.

A magnificent glass roof held together by a dome shaped framework of iron and steel shelters this imposing creation that lives up to its name as the Grand Palace. The worlds largest glass and iron structure is thus named the Grand Palais and is situated in the Champs-Elysees. It is currently an exhibition hall, a museum and a must visit heritage site while visiting Paris.

It is impossible not to admire the Palais and its sky scraping silhouette from a distance, especially its unusual glass roof. Up close the external walls are thickly strewn with beautiful carvings, mosaic patterns and classic paintings of its era. The palace was initially built for the purpose of the world fair in 1900 and later has undergone renovations over the course of time. It is the brainchild of four different architects who handled different segments of the building and is built in what is known as the Beaux-Arts mode of architecture.

Today this spectacular building hosts a number of events including exhibitions and live performances as well as many international fashion shows. The building actually consists of four sections; in the south wing there is a science museum and what is probably little known is the police station that lies at the basement, originally intended to protect exhibits.
