The Paradox

The Paradox

The Paradox

I still remember when I was still in university, we learnt one of the important figures of speech called paradox. In the very text, Alexander said, "If I were not Alexander, I should be Diogenes." I didn't quite understand the exact meaning then. To be frank, I was even a little bit confused. But now, I have got a better understanding about this. Let me just take The Lu Xun Literature Prize for example.

First, I have a question: if Lu Xun is still alive till today, is he qualified for The Lu Xun Literature Prize? In fact, the most excellent art works are from the folks instead of the officials or the governors. And the real masters actually do not quite care about whether they can get the honor or not. They just take the glory as an ornament for their career. On the contrary, it is these rewards that really need these masters to enhance their level. If these masters are not on the name list, it will not alter the status of them. However, it will be a great pity for these rewards, just like the stream letting the blooms slip.

Despite of all these having been said, I'm still interested in whether Lu Xun will be nominated for the reward which is named after his own name.NowI thinkI have my answer: no, probably he won't.

The first merit for this reward is that the works should be accepted and loved by the common people. But it seems that this is not the case with Lu Xun's art works. Maybe all of us have the same experience in high school that it is hard to understand Lu Xun's articles and the examination related to his essays is always a headache. There is a saying going like this: the most difficult three things for Chinese students are classical-style works, writings and Lu Xun. And in the recent days, the editors of the Chinese textbooks are trying to reduce the quantity of Lu Xun's works. You can see actuallyhis works are not so popular as before. As a result, the characteristics of Lu Xun's works have little common with the merits for the prize.

Dear friends, isn't it a big paradox that Lu Xun's works can not meet the standards of The Lu Xun Literature Prize? This paradox just proves better the idea Alexander expressed in the sentence as I mentioned before. What is funny, I find another paradox in the real life just as interesting as the one I talked above.

Everyone knows that smoking is harmful for our health, but there are still so many people who are hurting themselves everyday. What I want to point here is that there are the printing words "Smoking is bad for your health" on every packing of the cigarettes from the producers. So why do they have to sell it? This is one thing that I can't understand. If smoking is so bad, why not just quitting producing and selling cigarettes? Or maybe it is better for us to come up with a way in which we can balance the health and the hobby of these smoking people, so that everybody can get what he wants.

Some days ago, I voiced my idea to a BBS and wanted to know what other people think about the paradox issue. One of the reply suggested that maybe the E Cigarette is a good solution for my paradox issue about the smoking thing. He also recommended a great on-line shop (http://www.dinodirect.com/hot-products-e-cigarette/) which provides all kinds of E Cigarettes. Yes, the E Cigarettes seem to solve the paradox about the smoking thing, but what about the paradox issue about The Lu Xun Literature Prize?
