Humans have always loved perfumes and scents. In ancient times perfumes served the practical purpose of masking body odours. Today perfumes are fun and made to suit varying moods and preferences. Like Lacoste Touch of Pink, which is definitely a perfume for the young and the young at heart, perfumes today come in a wide range. Today we are spoilt for choice and can find perfumes to match our attire, the time of day and even the occasion. Usually lighter scents are worn during the day with deeper perfumes being ideal for evenings. But there are no hard and fast rules for perfumes, it is according to individual preferences.

Egyptians, the ancient pioneers, understood the importance of fragrances. Starting with incense the Egyptians were industrious enough to extract scented oils from herbs, flowers and spices to create perfumes. For the ancients perfumes were a way of life, men and women alike. There was a period in history, where the wonders of perfumes were lost, with puritans abstaining from the use of such products. This was in stark contrast to the prolific use of perfumes during the 18th century with everything being drenched with scents. This was in part for a show of wealth and in part to mask the odour of many unwashed bodies. Body washing was considered sacrilegious, mainly because washing was a time consuming task.

Luckily nowadays, we wear perfumes simply because we enjoy a particular scent. Some people stick to one particular smell, developing a signature scent, while others change their perfumes regularly. We can now have a range of perfumes that showcase our different moods. Perfumes range from the light and floral scents that hint at summer mornings, to the playful fruity scents while there are also the deeper spicier scents for the more adventurous. Perfumes are fun and can reflect the way we are feeling to others. Quality perfumes last the day, retaining their scent. A nice smell helps make a good first impression, as a scent lingers in the memory, long after the initial meeting.

Perfumes make the perfect gifts. It embodies value and so is perfect as a birthday, anniversary or Christmas gift. Receiving a bottle of quality perfume is an instant mood fixer. If you know the person well, then it is easy to pick the perfect perfume for them. However, even for the people we do not know too well, there are standard favourites, which have stood the test of time, which are perfect as gifts.
