The Perfect Gift: Four Steps To Unforgettable

Gift giving could be one of the most commonly over thought practices on the planet

. But it doesn't have to be. Cutting through the product clutter thrown at you through your inbox, mailbox, and TV set is a challenge. Making each gift unforgettable is not! The following four steps can make even the least expensive present "scrapbook worthy" largely due to one principle:

How you give is more important than what you give or why you give it.

When planning your gift, stick to the following:

1) Cherish the unexpected - Your gift doesn't have to shatter any high price records. The only things you should focus on exceeding are your recipient's expectations. Often a good laugh is the best way to go.

For Example: Give a close friend a card for the wrong holiday, but make your personalized note about the right one.

2) Gift often - Don't wait for a Birthday or Holiday to give. This takes pressure off what you're giving and why you're giving it. This way even the simplest gifts become extravagant (think flowers).

For Example: If your roommate is inclined to steal your socks, pick them up a pair the next time you're out. Try wrapping them for added effect. (Also effective for eliminating the theft of socks)

3) Highlight your attentiveness - For the more serious gifts involving loved ones and family members, start your brainstorm with a list of their interests. Make sure to put their passions at the top. Stay away from impersonal items like electronics or cloths, unless the product aligns with those passions or fits a need. "It's the thought that counts."

For example: If the recipient was a performer, find tickets to a nearby show. Look for one they played in the past.

4) Plan your presentation - No matter what winds up on your credit card, you can guarantee that someone else somewhere has purchased your gift before. Your challenge is to distinguish yourself and the gift through presentation. As mentioned above, timing, frequency, and personalization, are major factors in planning the perfect gift. Presentation is the icing on the cake. This could be as simple as giving the gift at an inopportune time (as you're walking into a party, first thing in the morning, surprise lunch), or taking the time to hide your surprise in plain sight.

For example: If you're buying for a husband or wife take the time to find that wonderful, meaningful gift and wrap it individually. Next, pick up an inexpensive pair of shoes at Payless (sneakers work well). Then, fit the original gift inside your shoebox with the shoes and wrap the outer box.

The presentation you decide on is more important than the gift itself in most cases. Focus your energy on the wrapping and we're sure the contents of your gift will really shine!
