Because the world cultures constantly interact and communicate today

, the study of cultures is getting more and more important year after year. Culturology is a specific discipline which dwells upon the study of culture, cultural activities and systems. It also involves the study of mentality, material and spiritual features of the modern society etc.

The subject of Culturology is the complex of values, rules and norms, communication and socialization mechanisms that make social life possible. Culturology contains the next general fields of study:

1.Traditional Culturology that's the field of study regarding mythology, folklore, religions, customs and traditions, national literatures and others.

2.Social Culturology which contains essential Culturology, the theory of Culturology, Anthropology etc.


3.Applied Culturology that concerns itself with the supervising and regulation of culture, especially in the fields of religion, education, recreation etc.

The issues studied by the descipline are religion, mythology, philosophy, behavior norms plus art as the components of culture. It focuses upon the research of culture as human social as well as historical experience, its representation in norms, activities and the so called cultural texts.

There are several approaches to the issues of Culturology such as:

1.Social-historical approach which is based on the studies of historians plus philosophers and is regarded as rather classical.

2.Racial-anthropological approach that studied the correlation between the race and the culture it made - the school is regarded not appropriate and rarely used nowadays.

3.Sociological approach that has a strong link with sociology and concentrates on the research of society, the structure and cultural properties and institutions since culture is possible only within human society.

4.Symbolic approach that is the most modern and most important trend in the study of Culturology. The symbolic school considers all cultural processes as specific kinds of communication based on symbols created in the process of human social activities.
