The Physical World Order
The physical world is orderly. I suppose, like anything else, the point is perhaps arguable but for our purposes here let's just be happy knowing that the world is orderly. Even in the most sterile and crowded urban centers you can find weeds, for example. A close examination of any weed immediately reveals patterns and structures that are, if not outright moving, at least undeniably striking. The physical world is quite beyond words in its majesty; woe to the one who fails to see that.
In all our scientific inquiry into the physical realm, we find orderly patterns. Some of these observations, such as those evidenced in quantum mechanics, can be quite baffling or paradoxical, but nothing yet has been observed that goes outside the boundaries of order.
So why then does our thinking and emotional state, for most of us, seem to be in such a chaotic, unpredictable flux? After all, if you are like most people don't your thoughts jump from here to there without a seemingly logical connection? Don't memories that have no relevance whatsoever suddenly surface in your mind at the oddest times? Can't your core emotional state change on a dime for the most trivial or unexplainable reason?
Humans, to a intense degree unlike any other animal, are constantly trying to organize their possessions and thoughts. I'm beginning to think that one reason writing arose was to give us a stopgap tool in times of confusion. And yet, away from kitchen right now, I really don't believe that I could produce an accurate diagram from memory showing where and how all my cutlery and sundries are organized, though that should seem a simple enough task.
Clearly, the mind does not possess the organized structure of the simplest blade of grass. But the mind obviously does function, sometimes in unfathomably brilliant ways, so there must be a method to its madness. Little thought has been put into the process of thought however, but perhaps we're on the brink of doing just that.
