There is nothing wrong with taking good care of your hands and your nails

. Unless you work with your hands for a living in a trade such as construction where they get beat up on a daily basis, it is better to have nice hands and clean fingernails.

While it is quite possible to take care of this all by yourself, it is a pleasant experience to have a professional manicure. The professional manicurist has all the proper tools and materials to do the job well and frankly it is much easier if a manicure is done by another person than when you try to do it yourself.

A good manicure starts with cleaning the hands and nails to remove dirt, especially under the nails, so they may ask you to soak your hands in a solution to help this process, and then the manicurist will take a tool and scrape the dirt out from under your fingernails.

The next step is they trim the nails and push back the cuticles so your nails will grow more healthy. Men's nails are trimmed short so there is little chance of breaking them unlike women's nails. However, there are exceptions to this and there have been men in history that let their nails grow long, even very long, like Fu Man Chu from China. There is no rule that says that men cannot have longer nails, so if you feel inclined to let them grow out a bit, feel free to do so.

Men don't usually wear fingernail polish although it is well accepted to wear finger nail polish in the color black for musicians and guys into the darker party scene. There is also the choice of a clear coat finger nail polish which has no color. This helps strengthen the nail and can be use as the finish to a great manicure. Even though it is clear, people will notice it because it makes the nails have a reflective sheen, so be aware of that effect.

The most important reason to have regular manicures, is to make the nails look healthy, avoid cracking and discoloration, and have them clean and trim. Men used to go to barbers for a professional shave, which is not as popular as it was before, yet you can still find it if you look for it. The manicure is not so different. In order to get one you should find the service available at any upscale hair salon that has both male and female customers so you don't necessarily have to go to a nail salon targeted mostly towards women.

However; if you are single and available you may have a lot of fun going to a woman's nail salon for a manicure because you will have the attention of all the woman customers and staff, and your pick of the lot. Be sure to talk about how you recently broke up with your girlfriend so they know you are available and you may end up with both a nice manicure and a hot date
