The Poetic Charm Of Valparaiso
. Its house called La Sebastiana, is one of the city's tourist highlights along with the bustling port at Valpo. If you plan a romantic trip to South America, Valparaiso should be on your list of places to see.
From afar, Valparaiso seems to be an ordinary port, but it takes a bit of exploration and knowledge of the place to discover its true beauty. The city can be entered by train or by car, and once you get there you will be entrapped in the city's maze of streets populated with old buildings, restaurants, and many businesses. If you like seafood, prepare yourself to be enthralled by the many varieties of fish dishes they serve here. The beaches are pretty amazing and many people indulge in these activities during Sunday afternoons.
An interesting way of exploring the city is by taking one of the old elevators built into the hill side over one hundred years ago. They allow you to travel from Valpo to the upper neighborhoods of Cerro. Once you get there you will be impressed with the arrangement of the iron houses. The way the buildings stick out of the hills makes them look like they were spawned by the landscape and Valparaiso is known world wide for this particularity.
While the beaches do not look like the beaches from hot tourist destinations, and there are not many hotels inside the city, Valparaiso has a certain something that you will not find anywhere else. It has natural charm exuded by places, the people and the general atmosphere that once enthralled Pablo Neruda enough to call it home. The atmosphere here is truly bohemian, and if you choose to stroll the streets soon you will be finding yourself hopping from one restaurant to another, from one jazz bar to another, and from one watering hole to another.
The houses in Valparaiso may look like they have seen better days, but their quaint appearance is what makes the place so romantic. Discolored by sun, damaged by the salty air brought by the ocean, the old houses turned orange and brown a long time ago. The harmony of colors you will see is pleasing to the eye. It is fun to walk down to the port and watch the ships go by. Valparaiso may not be your average tourist destination, but it has a unique charm that can hardly be described via words. Stop by street vendors and browse through their items and maybe even purchase a souvenir to remind you of your trip to Valparaiso.
The city was declared a World Heritage Site back in 2003 because of its colonial architecture and the way it has been preserved.
