The Power of Social Media

The Power of Social Media
Did you know that according to an AC Neilsen poll conducted Feb 2010 there were almost four times more hours spent on Facebook than any other website. Australian's spend over 4 hours per month on Facebook compared to less than 1 1/2 hours on Google, Government Sites, Yellow Pages Online and News Sites. What does this tell you? It tells me that we are social beings with a desire to communicate with our friends, peers and the world on a global scale. It's not just Facebook either, Twitter and You Tube have grown rapidly in the rankings and dominate along with Facebook.
Why is this important to know?
To "newbies" (new) business owners entering the online business world we need to understand what is driving people towards Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. We need to know how we can embrace these mediums as business tools and harness their power for the greater good of our business. All 3 applications mentioned have the ability to be integrated or embedded into your website to offer your clients easy access and connectivity to your products and services. There are several options alone for Facebook which business owners are taking advantage of everyday. The most common tool is the Like Box.
The Like Box is a social plugin that enables Facebook Page owners to attract and gain Likes from their own website. The Like Box enables users to:
See how many users already like this page, and which of their friends like it too
Read recent posts from the page
Like the page with one click, without needing to visit the page
You Tube has the ability to embed a video you upload as well as the ability to create your own playlists for multiple videos. The good news here is that you can see where your visitors are coming from through the reporting system built into You Tube. Twitter have also developed a series of "widgets" (tools) - the most useful one I've used is the Profile Widget. You can display your most recent Twitter updates on any webpage.
Knowing where your clients are coming from is equally important as getting new clients. Once you have your new clients the trick is to keep them informed. Social media apps offer an easy alternative to communicate with them in a non-threatening manner. By non-threatening I mean that you are not doing the "hard sell". Consumers need to see or read a message up to 7-9 times before they react. Social media is a soft sell approach.
My advice. Engage an expert like Corporate Design Solutions in Social Media integration and your business will grow
Enjoy your online experience.
